PURPOSE

PURPOSE is for students preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation (typically, eighth-grade) and meets in the Church basement from 5:30-7:00 PM on the Sundays above. At PURPOSE, teens will learn about the Sacrament of Confirmation by first addressing three questions: Why God? Why Jesus? Why the Catholic Church?
An optional dinner is served each week from 5:00-5:30 PM in the parish hall (unless otherwise noted), and Confirmation preparation takes place from 5:30-7:00 PM.
Youth Group Bibles and T-Shirts: St. Francis de Sales youth receive their own Bible and youth group t-shirt in sixth grade. If you have a Confirmation student who has not received a Bible or t-shirt, please contact McKinzie.
SFDS Family Formation Commitment
We recognize parents/guardians as the primary catechists of their children. As we join together in the faith formation of your child, we can only strengthen the Catholic life you lead at home. We support you in this ministry, but we cannot replace you. Rather, we seek to share with you in the role of imparting the true teachings of the Catholic faith to your children. We invite all St. Francis de Sales parents/guardians to partner in our pledge to faith and spiritual formation by:
- Praying with your child(ren) daily and modeling prayer for them
- Participating weekly in Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation (8/15/25, 12/8/25, 12/25/25, and 1/1/26)
- Attending Confirmation preparation sessions regularly
- Reading and meditating on Scripture as a family
- Attending Confession regularly as a family to receive Christ’s healing mercy (once a month recommended)
- Living as the Body of Christ through generous self-giving of one’s time, talent, and treasure in our parish and local communities
